A Hyperbaric Chamber Operator administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diagnostic testing to patients under the direction of a physician. They are responsible for documenting treatment details such as equipment settings, treatment duration, and patient response. HCO’s operate hyperbaric chambers and other hyperbaric support systems in accordance to all applicable safety standards and regulations. They are also responsible for cleaning the chamber and equipment according to infection control policies and routinely performing equipment checks as well as system maintenance.

Total hours: 40 

this course prepares students, under the supervision of physicians, to operate hyperbaric chambers for the treatment of dive related diseases. It also provides instruction in patient assessment and management, hyperbaric safety, physics of hyperbaric and hypobaric exposures, physiology, hyperbaric chamber operation, and air decompression procedures.

it serves as a prerequisite to Advanced Hyperbaric Technician (AHT).
